When you think about it, the real estate ‘calendar’ is a series of regular interruptions.  If it’s not one thing, it’s another.   Seasonal and religious holidays, national days, long weekends and school holidays present an unending parade of marketing interruptions for property sellers.  And then, every two years, there is the Summer or Winter Olympic Games.

A few years back, my family and I were lucky enough to be offered a house swap with a family from Whistler Village in British Columbia, Canada’s stunning western province.  For three gorgeous February weeks we skied and played in North America’s largest (and many would say most impressive) alpine resort.  Mountains of virgin powder snow taught us a whole new set of skills.  Our memories of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains are vivid and treasured.

This february, the world will get to see this magnificent place like never before.  With a rumored expense bill of more than 6 Billion Dollars, The city of Vancouver is hoping for one almighty public relations victory as they stage the Winter Games of 2010.

So how will this challenge property sellers and will the Olympic Games be yet another interruption that might influence the selling result?   Can I urge you not to worry.  The fact is that there is really no perfect time to sell.  There will always be some kind of interruption to deal with.

Personally, I am more concerned at the prospect of a potential rise in interest rates.  I think the price of money is going to be far more influential in a buyers mind than two weeks of hockey, luge and figure skating.  So therefore, a sale sooner rather than later may work in your favour. 

And maybe your creative real estate professional can come up with a catchy heading to give your marketing campaign that little extra oomph!  (many of us are ‘weekend wordsmiths’ you know) 

Regardless of when you are selling, the essentials for selling success still apply.  Great presentation, great photos and great marketing will drive more quality buyer traffic into your street and through your front door.
